The second movement is steady, flowing, with beautiful lyrical lines. The final movement places heavy emphasis on rhythm with a lyrical section.

Theme and Variations for Clarinet Solo (2002-2003)

This unique theme and variations was written so that the variations work backwards to the theme. Variation 5 is strictly 12-tone (serialism) and tonality is gradually worked in to the Theme which is presented last. Written for solo Bb clarinet.

Layla's Theme (2003)

This string orchestra work has a melancholy feel. Written in simple rounded binary form, this short piece reflects emotion at the deepest level while yet still achieving the lighthearted feel of a child's innocence. Layla's Theme was premiered by the Southern Crescent Symphony on the Women of Substance Gala Concert September 28, 2003.

Memories of Appalachia (2000)

My second full orchestra piece and this one is my favorite. Lots of composers have written works using folk tunes, but I decided to add the 'real' Appalachian folk instruments. I was very fortunate to be educated in Bluegrass music and so, writing for banjo, hammer dulcimer, and fiddle was not too difficult of a task. Growing up near the Appalachian Mountains had spurred my interest in folk music and instruments. Work is still in progress.
